It was unavoidable. This post has been swirling around in my head for weeks, trying to think of a cutesy loved-up baking post to share and sicken you all with my love of clichéd cuddles and flowers and teddy bears and running to the airport just in time to tell me that I shouldn't go to Paris but I get on the plane anyway and then I'm in your apartment and I am NOT Rachel Green.
I can't take full credit for these creations. The brownie recipe is Sally's from Sally's Baking Addiction and has become my go-to recipe every since I started reading her blog a few months ago. I love the combination of rose and chocolate - throw in a heart-shaped cookie cutter and you have a recipe for romance. I've got another idea for a loved-up baking recipe before Valentines so keep checking next week!
Recipe after the jump!
Rose Flavoured Brownie Hearts
Makes around 25, plus leftovers
Brownies
113g butter
220g dark chocolate
250g caster sugar
3 large eggs
1tsp vanilla extract
95g plain flour
pinch salt
Preheat oven to 180C and grease and line an 8x8 baking pan.
Melt the butter and chocolate together in a bowl, either in the microwave or over a saucepan of boiling water. Leave to cool for around 15 minutes.
Once cooled, add the sugar to the chocolate mixture. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then whisk in the vanilla.
Fold in the flour and salt, then pour into the baking pan.
Bake for around 35/40 minutes, but begin to check after 30.
Rose icing
30g icing sugar
1/2 tsp rose water
2tsp water
pink food colouring
Leave the brownies to cool COMPLETELY. Using a cookie cutter, carefully cut out the heart shapes. Try to cut them out close to each other to avoid wasting brownie. Once you've cut all you can, separate the hearts from the leftovers (eat these as you feel the need to) and prepare the icing.
Either using a piping bag with a fine nozzle or just a spoon, drizzle the icing over the hearts. Leave to harden, and enjoy!
Happy valentines day ❤
